The EduPower Foundation was established on a simple but urgent conviction: that access to quality education is not a privilege — it is a right. In South Africa, where systemic inequality continues to shape what is possible for millions of young people, we act as a bridge between potential and opportunity.
In 2022, we launched English is Lekka — a transformative literacy and social justice programme designed to do more than improve grades. Through reading, writing, debating, and filmmaking clubs, competitive showcases, museum and theatre excursions, and targeted Grade 12 academic interventions, we build learners who are articulate, curious, and equipped to navigate the world with confidence.
In 2025, we piloted a residential Grade 12 study camp in the weeks before the National Senior Certificate examinations. The results demonstrated measurable improvements in exam readiness, writing performance, and learner confidence. From 2026, we are scaling to two annual camps — before the June and September trial examinations — serving 100 learners per camp with structured academic support, expert tutors, and daily life coaching.
From our first competition at the Labia Theatre in 2022 to a leadership camp on Robben Island in 2025, English is Lekker has consistently expanded what learners believe is possible for themselves. Our programme integrates academic rigour with cultural exposure — from Iziko Museums and the District Six Museum to Save Our Seas in Kalk Bay — developing young people who are grounded in their identity and ready to lead.
At scale, English is Lekka delivers transformative, multi-dimensional impact at approximately R4,427 per learner annually. Our model is designed to grow: as reach expands to 500 learners, cost efficiency improves — without compromising the quality of the programme.
Our vision is a just and equitable society where every learner — regardless of postcode or background — has access to the cultural capital and academic foundation they deserve. Everything we do is in service of that goal.
Our work extends beyond the learner. We invest in the educators who show up every day in under-resourced classrooms — providing professional development workshops in assessment design, pedagogy, AI integration, and teacher wellbeing.
When teachers thrive, learners thrive.
We believe language is power!
